LPG Forklifts Anyone?
There are still some forklift trucks that are powered by propane or LP gas. Each morning the trucks need to be fueled up from a propane gas storage tank which is can be located just behind the warehouse.
They’ll run all day on 35-40 pounds of the stuff. Use of the propane, instead, of gasoline, for the fork lifts has three main advantages:
(1) No oily, smelly exhaust fumes inside the building;
(2) lower fuel costs;
(3) lower maintenance costs on the truck engines.
You can’t visit any warehouse for long without noticing the fork lift trucks buzzing from stack to stack. Together with the pallet method of handling the merchandise, they enable a little human labor to go a long way, and at the same time enable the warehouse to render fast service at a minimum of operating expense.
