Online School: Assessment
In most online computer training courses it is expected that some sort of assessment will take place. Assessment has three possible functions.(1) It enables the tutor, and the learner, to monitor progress and thus identify any strengths and weaknesses in the student's work. This is called diagnostic assessment.(2) It provides an opportunity for the tutor to give the learner feedback. This is called formative assessment.(3) It is a way of meeting the requirements of accrediting or awarding bodies in order that learners can receive a qualification. This is called summative assessment. In practice the different functions of assessment are not clear-cut but properly overlap and integrate.
